The Public Ministry is tasked with promoting the
implementation of the law and ensuring the respect of legality, fundamental
rights and equality before the law.
The Public Ministry must be a judiciary authority,
independent of the executive branch.
For Medel, the magistrates who exercise the functions
of the Public Ministry must enjoy the same freedoms and guarantees as those
defined in its declaration on the European Statute of Magistracy. This was the
subject of the Declaration of Principles on the Public Ministry, adopted in
DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES CONCERNING THE PUBLIC PROSECUTOR
